The Wassaic Project Summer Festival curated by Eve + Bowie & Elan
Over 40 artists featuring site sensitive installations in the Maxon Mills, Luther Barn, and various exterior locations in Wassaic. As artists, Eve + Bowie & Elan have a unique curatorial sensibility. They encourage their artists to create and show work that can't be seen anywhere else. The show emphasizes experimental and under represented while reveling in the simple and accessible nature of art.

The Society Of Free Theatrical And Musical Entertainers Redefining Interactive Community Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to the creation of performance-based community art that is FREE, FUN, INNOVATIVE and INTERACTIVE. Founded in April 2009 by Anthony Grappa, SOFTAMERICA has quickly developed a large membership and attracted considerable attention and support over the course of its brief existence. The date of August 15th 2009 has been confirmed for SOFTAMERICA's first public production - a FUNK OPERA. The performance will feature many of SOFTAMERICA's finest singing actors and actresses, a rich assortment of dancers, and the mammoth SOFTAMERICA Funk Orkestra. The FUNK OPERA will reportedly attempt to keep everybody dancing from start to finish while acting out the fascinating history of SOFTAMERICA itself, all the while facilitating the community-enhancing transition to PERFORMERS of those who are traditionally considered OBSERVERS.

"2088 Wassaic"
The project that I will exhibit on at Wassaic project Sunmmer Festival is "2088 Wassaic" which will project what the Wassaic will look like in the year 2088. The physical aspect of the project will use lighting, water and video to demonstrate the effects of global warming, in particular the rising water levels. It will be a site specific project, in one location or roving around Wassaic area, projecting images of water onto buildings or tents to create the effect of a town underwater. Chin Chih Yang's roving multimedia video projection, 2088 Wassaic, will transform Wassaic into a neighborhood under water, demonstrating the effect that the Earth's rising water levels will have on Wassaic by 2088.

POETRY
Poetry

@ Auction Ring / Luther Barn
Saturday 3pm - 5pm

The Segue Foundation, publisher of Roof Books, proudly presents "Segue Goes Country: Innovative Poets from the Tri-State Region" at Luther's Livestock Auction at the Wassaic Project. Over the past several decades several groups of new poets have challenged each other's assumptions and rights to exist. This reading brings a few of them together in one place to battle it out for control of the poetry world. This event is unrated.

Featuring: Nada Gordon, Michael Gottlieb, Gary Sullivan, Stacy Szymaszek, Geoff Young

Nada Gordon's most recent poetry is Folly from Roof Books. Publishers Weekly dubbed her an "outrageously ludic punk priestess." She blogs avidly at http://ululate.blogspot.com.

Michael Gottlieb, the author of 14 books, lives in Lakeville, CT. Gottlieb's latest, Memoir and Essay, was by hailed by Kasey Mohammed as "an immensely valuable document in the annals of Language writing and contemporary literary autobiography."

Poet and cartoonist Gary Sullivan is the author of PPL in a Depot, a Googled book of flarf plays, and the comic book series Elsewhere. He maintains a blog at http://garysullivan.blogspot.com.

Stacy Szymaszek is the author of Emptied of All Ships and Hyperglossia from Litmus Press. She is the Director of the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church. A section of a new long poem "Hart Island" is forthcoming in limited edition from Albion Books.

Geoffrey Young's press, The Figures, published over 125 books of poetry, fiction, and art writing. His own recent books include Cerulean Embankments and Fickle Sonnets. His contemporary art gallery in Great Barrington has presented more than 60 shows.
